This Benifuuki is a cross between the shrub varieties Benihomare and Makura Cd86 and was originally developed by Mr. Tada in Shizuoka as a base for black tea. The high content of methylated catechin in Benifuuki is said to have a highly beneficial effect on allergies, hay fever and neurodermatitis.
However, when processing Benifuuki as Oolong tea (semi-fermented), it was found that a very considerable part of the positive health effect was lost through this process, so that processing into green tea, i.e. without fermentation, promises the best effect.
