Okuyame is located in the midst of evergreen mountains at 600 meters above sea level east of the YAME district in Fukuoka Prefecture. The mountainous location explains the cool temperatures and even in winter there is regular snow there.

Ideal conditions to grow organic tea leaves

These climatic conditions allow the tea plant to thrive in peace without being attacked by pests that cannot survive in these temperatures. Accordingly, the use of pesticides is not necessary. Ideal conditions, therefore, to grow organic tea leaves.

In order to obtain high quality tea leaves, tea farmers attach great importance to the health of their tea plants: Here, too, a time-honored cultivation method finds its perfection when tea farmers use hand-selected fermented organic fertilizers called "bokashi fertilizers" to help their tea plants grow healthily in a natural way. Meticulously, each stage in the plant's growth is monitored and adjusted to the specific weather conditions of each season to achieve the highest standards.

In May 2017, YAME-SENCHA-CULTIVAR won the national premium tea competition.

Before infusion:

• Shape of leaves: tapering to the ends, needle-shaped.
• Color: delicate small dark green leaves
• Fragrance: soft and subtle; exudes the fresh scent of rain-wet grass

After infusion:

• Color: golden yellow hue
• Aroma: rather reserved and restrained; a hint of green tea scent
• Taste: distinctive and solid; clearly accentuated and unmistakable
