The Bancha is a Japanese organic green tea produced under strict conditions. Like the Yame Sencha, the tea leaves come from the growing areas of the Yame district in Fukuoka Prefecture.Its trademark is the composition of a slightly fruity taste and a mild aroma, which in the overall picture result in an unadulterated palatable tea. A normal Bancha is defined by the late harvest time, which is in the autumn season. This Bancha, however, unlike the conventional Bancha varieties, is harvested as early as June, when the tea leaves are still young and strong, and is only further processed to Bancha in the subsequent steps. This achieves the rare art of bringing Bancha to eye level with a high quality Sencha.Since Bancha contains less caffeine than Sencha or even Gyokuro, its gentle character is a veritable selling point for many connoisseurs.
Before infusion:
- Shape of leaves: large tea leaves that have largely retained their original shape (the high quality teas often lose their leaf structure).
- Color: blending of light as well as dark green leaves
- Fragrance: the mixture gives a wide range of intense green tea fragrance
After infusion:
- Color: yellowish jade green
- Aroma: unadulterated, clearly contoured green tea scent
- Taste: fine tart, silky with a short finish
