The tea plants for these treasures grow in Kagoshima at an altitude of over 1000 meters in the fields of long-time contract farmers. During the shade season, the plants are tended with special care to prevent damage from disease or pests - not an easy task when you are an organic farmer and do not use pesticides or chemical insecticides - because the stronger the shade, the more susceptible the plants become. But the effort is worth it!
Enjoy a harmonious aroma with the fine sweetness typical of Gyokuro, paired with a refreshing fruity spiciness and a long, full-bodied finish. This premium Gyokuro is grown in the highlands of Kagoshima and the tea bushes are harvested only once a year. In two stages, the tea plants are shaded and moderately steamed (chumushi) for a total of 3 weeks. The infusion of the small, dark green, needle-shaped leaves, especially in the second infusion, presents an unusually intense green for Gyokuro and a fresh, invigorating fragrance in the cup.
The name of this top tea "Kiwami" means in Japanese 極み: zenith, summit, climax. This name honours the years of experience and knowledge of the KEIKO tea farmers, which you can experience with all your senses when enjoying KEIKO Gyokuro Kiwami.
The Gyokuro Kiwami captivates with its fresh umami and the complete absence of an oxidation note. Typical for KEIKO, strict attention is paid to ensuring that the tea in your cup is as fresh as in Japan. No loss of quality from the field to the cup. KEIKO has long searched for a Gyokuro that keeps this promise. KEIKO has found it!
The multi-layered effervescence and a well-balanced sweetness make this Gyokuro a harmonious pleasure with a fresh, slightly floral fragrance. In the cup, the tea develops an intense green and takes the eye on a journey to the origin of this Gyokuro - the deep green, lush tea fields of Japan.
KEIKO is very proud to be able to offer this tea variety in organic quality after a long and planning intensive preparation time. A specially developed organic fertilizer, multi-stage shading and a sophisticated steaming process create optimal conditions for this sensitive full shade tea.
