Miyama Kirishima Sencha (organic)

The Hayashi family harvests vintage tea trees for this Sencha. Some of the tea trees are already around 100 years old, which is the basis for the very unique flavour of this tea. Different to the well-known tea bush varieties like Yabukita, Asatsuyu, Sae Midori and so on, which are grown from cuttings, the vintage tea trees used for the Miyama Kirishima Sencha are grown from seeds.

Seed grown tea trees are getting much older than tea trees grown from cuttings, and their very special characteristic is, that every bush differs from the others. Due to this, seed grown tea trees do not belong to any tea bush variety, but every single bush is a tea bush variety by its own. Seed grown tea trees are called “zai-rai-shu”, which means “tree from a seed”.
