The bamboo brush is almost an indispensable tool to stir Matcha correctly in water and to whisk it properly. The Matcha powder spreads very well by beating with the bamboo brush, no lumps are formed in the drink and the brush forms a fine foam on the surface. The more bristles the brush has, the finer is the foam in the Matcha bowl.
You should never stir Matcha with a spoon in water, as lump formation is inevitable .

A chasen (bamboo whisk) should be soaked once before the very first use. To do this, place the whisk with the bristles downwards in a bowl of hot water for about 30 minutes, so that the bristles are all in the water. This allows the bristles to "unfold" a bit and they become softer and smoother.
Before each preparation of a Matcha the bristles of the Chasen should be moistened besides always briefly, so that the bristles become also now again more supple and softer. This makes the preparation of the matcha easier, the foam formation is better and faster and the bristles of the whisk do not break off so quickly. It is sufficient to hold the bristles briefly under running water from the tap and wait a moment until the bristles have absorbed the water.
After each use, the whisk should be dried in the air and then be sure to store it dry. Under no circumstances should the Chasen be returned to the plastic packaging in which it is supplied. This plastic packaging is only for shipping and not for storage. If there is even a residue of moisture on the whisk, the whisk will quickly begin to mold in the plastic packaging and become unusable. To dry, place the broom with the bristles facing up or use a bamboo whisk holder on which the chasen can easily dry and be kept in shape.
